POST 11: Reviving the Project?

This blog has been inactive for almost 10 months, while I was busy with other projects. I am reviving it to brainstorm, exchange ideas, and explore the possibilities with Randy and Sam about possibly doing together a short movie to enter in the next Sidewalk Film Festival. It would have to be completed by the end of April 2015.
The 15 minutes short film would have a gritty Steampunk look, combine various types of animation with live action, and be a sort of surrealistic fable about social disparities and the concentration of power among the hands of a few, reminiscent of turn of the century America, with a Rockefeller/Vanderbilt type "Magnate" wielding total political and economic control over the "Country".
As for the Steampunk part, I have been collecting lately a lot of images that fit into that look, textures, scientific optical and electrical apparatus, clocks, machines of all kinds, gears, engines, buildings, anything with a Victorian industrial connection.

All these disparate elements could be collaged into layered sets, animated, and used as backgrounds for live action filmed in front of a green screen.
The larger 7500 pixels or so wide "stage" would be a fictitious city with an equally gritty look, built layering images and adding 19th elements and buildings. I just played a little with the skyline of Chicago:

The city scape itself could be divided in foreground, middle grounds and backgrounds layers, and used to build a 3D space in After Effects with moving clouds  behind, so moving the virtual camera sideways would give an illusion of 3D.
Some of the foreground buildings could be even be built in 3D. I will test that next, and also try to come up with some kind of "office/control room/ mad scientist lab" interior space with a view of the city through the window, so we can move or zoom a virtual camera from outside to inside. Below is a quick test done modifying someone else's illustration:

That room could possibly be inside some kind of "Command Airship" where the "Magnate" lives in luxury(almost a Captain Nemo in the Nautilus figure), while the rest of the people live and work 16 hour days crammed in the skyscrapers and the factories.

Thinking of a pair of identical girl twins, one dressed as a man, the other as a woman going after the magnate monopoly on industry with a scam involving Tesla and a fictitious lost invention that could transmit power over large distances over thin air… Just brainstorming!
